Book Review! the five poeple you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom

Oh my gosh, what a fantastic novel! This isn't technically a young adult novel, but I think it's appropriate for teenagers.

Why I read this book: I read Tuesday's With Morrie, also by Mitch Albom, which I absolutely adored, for my english class, and saw this on my mother's bookshelf.

Genre:fiction

Plot: This book is basically about an old man, Eddie, who is killed (don't worry, it isn't graphic or gory) and his journey through heaven, trying to make peace and understand  his life. The story takes you back into Eddie's childhood, as well as his young adult life, and his story unfolds throughout the novel as he meets new people in heaven who tell him what he needs to learn.

Why I loved it:It is extremely well written, and you grow to love Eddie from the very beginning of the novel. It was a little bit of a tearjerker, but it is definitely worth a read.

Why I disliked it: nope, I loved it, although I did cry, haha.

Last remarks: 9 1/2 out of ten stars. I sat down and didn't get up until I finished it. :)

Book Review! Fly Girl by Sherri L. Smith

My first official review! Okay, well I recently picked up this book from the public library. I hadn't actually planned on reading it, and it sat in my pile for quite a few weeks. I forgot about it until one rainy day, when I had finished all of my other books and saw it sitting on my shelf. I started it, and absolutely could not put it down!
Plot: The book is about a young woman, Ida Mae, during WWII. She wants desperately to become a pilot after her father passes away, but seeing that she is African American, her dreams are put on hold until one day when her brother brings her home an article from the newspaper. The article informs Ida Mae about a new program in the military called WASP (Women Airforce Service Program) that trains women to fly planes in the armed forces. Her skin is fairly light, due to her mixed heritage, and she decides to take a huge risk by 'passing' as a white woman and signing up for the program. The book details her courage, the challenges of overcoming her obstacles, and basically her journey to fitting in in 'a white man's army'.

This book was truly a wonderful read. You really get to know Ida Mae,to feel for her,to care about her, and root for her throughout the novel. She has courage spunk, and a whole lot of heart, and while Ida Mae is fictional, she sheds a great light on all of the women in the military in WWII. All of the characters are very well developed and the plot keeps moving and never gets boring.  While it was somewhat long, this novel is definitley a great book to pick up.

Final Thoughts: 8 1/2 out of ten stars. Interested in historical fiction? Then this is a definite pick for you.

Hope you liked this!

Nila's Book Report Purpose

So...Why start a blog? The other day, I was researching a few new titles to check out from the library, and realized, that besides from mainstream bestsellers lists, there were very few fun resources for girls my age to find new books, besides actually talking to a librarian.I decided to do this blog to encourage the wonderful effects of reading on young women , to give my own 'book reports' on titles that I am currently reading, and to create a positive place for girls (and boys too) to discuss new reading materials.I hope that this blog grows to include interviews, polls,a suggestion box and many more cool features, but only time will tell.
If you have any books that you would like to suggest ,or have any other ideas, please feel free to comment or email me!
Thank you so much for reading.

Nila's Book Report Background!

First of all, let me start off by telling you a little background information.Within the last year or so, I have been reading an insane amount of novels to try to strengthen my vocabulary and just for entertainment. I visit my school library more than anyone I know, and the librarians even know my name, haha. How it started out was, every year, my state puts out a list of supposably great books for young adults, and the school challenges students to read  three of the twenty or so books that make the list.At the beginning of last year, I went in the library to check out a book for a report I was doing, and saw a poster with all of the books announced. I had already read one of the books, which I had loved, so I decided to try and read two other novels on the list. I did, and they were fantastic! From then on, I have been a reading fool. Each week, I challenge myself to read two non school books. For the most part, I've succeeded, and my love for immersing myself into a fantastic story was born. That sounded cheesy, sorry.
Let me just say that in no way am I a literary expert. I am just an average fifteen year old girl who loves to read and wants to share her love of books with other young girls,or anyone for that matter.
I'm going to post one or two other informative blogs tonight. I just wanted to break it up into readable sectionsso that people could read what they wanted to know.
